RONINSCAR – THEY HAVE AWOKEN 2021

‘They Have Awoken’ is a continuation of the ongoing narrative about The Zone, which is the home and foundation of all of my work. This collection introduces the people who live within The Zone. Inspired by the Cossack people of Ukraine, who lived centuries ago, historical and cultural references are used throughout. More specifically, I researched and studied the Zaporozhian Cossacks and traditional Ukrainian Culture. The music for the show is a tribute to the Ukrainian Kobzar / Musician – Vasyl Zhdankin who recently passed away 2 years ago. When I first discovered him a few months ago, his voice had an immensely powerful affect on me. During the making of the collection, I would always have his music on in the background. I was inspired by him due to the fact that he dedicated his life to playing and singing music. ‘They Have Awoken’ is an ongoing project for an indefinite amount of time. It will be a culmination of the unconstrained growth that keeps on persisting. This collection is only the introduction to the people who live within The Zone.

RONINSCAR – THEY HAVE AWOKEN

They Have Awoken is my graduate collection that describes a group of people who were thought to be long gone but have now reappeared within The Zone. They were awoken through a Warrior’s Prayer. These people have come to reclaim and inhabit The Zone. Echoes of their past come forth. A fall fog approaches before winter consumes. Inspired by the Cossack people of Ukraine, historical and cultural references are explored through the lens of RoninScar. This collection focuses on texture, silhouette, and color.

RONINSCAR – THE ZONE 2020

Omaha Fashion Week August 2020 – The Zone is a collection that explores my personal relationships through the history of the Chernobyl Disaster. Exploring all the people who were affected by the disaster, the people who had to clean up, and the surrounding area still restricted to this day. Along with Chernobyl, I reference one of Andrei Tarkovsky’s films, Stalker. Just like the film, I am the Stalker who will lead you through The Zone. This specific Tarkovsky film had a big impact on me that I will carry with me for many future projects.

The Zone is the home / world for all my future endeavors. The characteristics and nature of The Zone will be explored further as time goes on. I am the Stalker that will lead you through it, exploring the mysterious places and people within.

With this collection, I focused on showing the people who were involved with the Chernobyl Disaster. It is broken up into 5 pairs: Reactor Worker, Civilians, Reservists, Liquidators, BioRobots. Each pair had its own characteristics with similar themes running through all of them.
